Keep Yourself Entertained!

Over the past few years I have had the opportunity to explore many new things while here at ISU. People often ask me what I do for fun since Iowa is so “boring.” I personally think Iowa is beautiful, and that if you know where to look in Ames, you’ll never be bored!
We have several on campus organizations that are devoted to making sure that students have entertainment options on campus, and most of them are free to students! Cyclone Cinema shows recently released movies Thursday-Sundays at no cost to students. Who doesn’t love free?

I really enjoy going to see lectures as well. A lot of times we see a lot of really cool people come through to talk, and I love that I have had the opportunity to listen to some very important people. I met medical anthropologist Paul Farmer earlier this semester, and I even had a photo opportunity with Max Brooks, the author of “The Zombie Survival Guide.”
I’m also a big fan of music, so I am a frequent visitor of the M-Shop. Jeremy Messersmith is playing a show this Friday, and I am a big fan of his work! I will definitely be there singing along with my favorites! The M-Shop also hosts karaoke, Grandma Mojo’s and other non-musical performances.
This Friday is Winterfest! A lot of people don’t really capitalize on this event, but I love it! My favorite event is hot chocolate at the Knoll! The President’s house is so pretty, and the hot chocolate is so worth the trek to the RDA area. The Workspace also hosts crafts, and ISU AfterDark will have bingo from 7-11. If you’ve never played bingo at ISU, you are missing out on a campus favorite! There are lots of other activities planned, so be sure to check out the full schedule here  so you don’t miss a thing!
With Dead Week just around the corner, this is the last opportunity for fun events like this for the semester. If you’re looking to take a break from studying next week, downtown Ames has great places to eat, shop, and get crafty! I went to Kiln’ Time last weekend and did some ceramic painting at their studio.
