Surprise, Surprise :)

I’ll admit that I’ve been having some pretty stressful times so far this year as I’m dealing with upper level classes, stress about internships and jobs, and the like. Sometimes it’s hard for me to look past all of the stressful things about college life, and I get very overwhelmed. However, this past weekend I was almost “forced” to relax, for lack of a better term. 🙂

I had a long to-do list for that Saturday, and I was basically going to lock myself in my room and study all day for the exams I had this past week. But without any of my knowing, my boyfriend, Dan, showed up at my door. He had flowers and told me about reservations he had made for dinner in Des Moines that night because he knew I had a stressful week ahead. It may not seem like a huge surprise, but for those of you who don’t know, Dan lives back in my hometown. So, it’s about a 2.5 hour drive for him to get to Ames, and I didn’t expect to be able to see him until the next time I went home!

Anyway, I did all the homework I absolutely NEEDED to do, and then I had to get all dressed up for our “fancy dinner date.” I was worried about not being able to get all the extra studying in that I needed to, but once we got to Des Moines, I was able to actually forget about school for a bit and just have a nice conversation. And guess what? Even without the whole day of studying, I was still able to do pretty well on the exams I had this week. Score!

Long story short, it was necessary for me to just “take a chill pill” and get away from the hustle and bustle of school life for a while. I think that’s something all of us should do, especially as our classes get busier as the semester goes on. Go do something to relax and get away this weekend; it will do you wonders. 🙂
