So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, good bye!
Hello my darlings!
This, sadly, is my last post on Cyclone Life. It’s been a wild ride writing for you all, and I’m going to miss it with all my heart.
For those of you who haven’t heard about my life since graduating from ISU this past May, it’s been a whirlwind! After graduation I moved back home for a bit, and backpacked Spain with my mom for a while, which was awesome.
When I got back from Spain, I went to the big Google I/O conference in San Francisco! It was a blast checking out all kinds of new tech and seeing what’s going to be the next big thing (for Google, they think it’s Android TV, Android cars, and smart watches).
And then, the weekend after I got back from I/O, I moved to New York! I live in Brooklyn and work in Manhattan, and it’s been a blast so far. As noted by the party hats below (my friend Joel is a co-worker of mine, and also an Iowa State alum).
If you don’t remember a previous post of mine, I’m now a full-time software engineer at Venmo! The company is so fun. We’ve had all kinds of fun things in the office, like sushi workshops and free lunch everyday.
And, even more fun, as I write this, I’m at another hackathon! What I love about my job is that I can participate in conferences and hackathons and meetups with my co-workers, who are quickly becoming my friends, too.
I’m going to miss Iowa State so much. I already have plans to come back to campus to recruit at the career fair and to see old friends. I’m already missing hanging out in Hawthorn Market in Freddy Court, going to ISU AfterDark every month, seeing the beautiful people in the Computer Science/Software Engineering Club every week, grabbing a drink at the Hub before doing a crossword in the Iowa State Daily, walking across Central Campus… it really makes you appreciate the time you had there. So many people I’ve spoken to talk about their stressful college years, or not being in any clubs throughout college, or not having a career fair. Iowa State provided me, and so many others, such a well-rounded, happy, fun, enriching experience that I wouldn’t trade for anything.
So, my fellow Cyclones, this is my sign off. Enjoy your adventure at Iowa State. It’s one of the best ones you’ll ever have.
Until then, I’ll be here out East, moving forward, but never forgetting my Iowa State adventure.
