An Indie Music Lover’s Dream
I’ve always had a taste for indie/alternative music. Since I have been at Iowa State, I’ve had a chance to see some of the greats! X Ambassadors, Twenty-One Pilots, Smallpools, Misterwives, AND MORE.
I even got this sweet pic with Echosmith at their concert last spring.
Just a few weeks ago I got the chance to go to the X Ambassadors and Smallpools concert in the Great Hall! The band was fantastic, and everyone was so into it. It was brilliant to hear quality music and jam out with quality friends.
Said quality friends jamming out to X Ambassadors.
SUB does a fantastic job of gathering artists from all ends of the musical spectrum. Country, pop, hip-hop, and indie artists are all represented on the yearly concert line-up. When I first came to Iowa State, I was so excited to find that people shared my unique taste in music. In fact, I would even go so far as to say that Iowa State is an indie music lover’s dream!
Bands like Catfish and the Bottleman, The Lumineers, and The Civil Wars have all graced the stage of the M-Shop prior to hitting the big time. Iowa State students have the unique opportunity to hear great artists at a discounted rate before they hit the big time.
“Yeah, I liked The Lumineers before they were cool. I saw them at the Maintanence Shop.” -Every cool person who saw The Lumineers at The Maintanence Shop.
The Student Union Board puts on a few larger concerts each semester. These are typically held in the Great Hall of the Memorial Union or at the Hansen Agricultural Learning Center. Smaller shows are held in The Maintenance Shop (lovingly referred to as the The M-Shop). All shows have discounted rates for students with an ISU ID Card. Non-student rates are available as well. Whether you like to be in the middle of the crowd or relaxing at a distance, there is a concert option for you.
Check out the SUB Calendar for this month, and see why Iowa State is an indie (and country, and pop, and hip-hop, etc.) music lover’s dream!
