Intramural sports have a wide range, but usually people only think of the typical ones like basketball, volleyball, flag football, and softball. But I bet you didn’t know that these were intramural sports you can try!
What is Spikeball you ask? well, if you have ever seen people on campus or even the beach with a little net that looks like a miniature trampoline and then are hitting a ball off of it, then you’ve seen people playing Spikeball! It is played 2 on 2 with the net between the teams. A player serves the ball at the net and the opposing team has up to 3 hits between them to control the ball and bounce it back off of the net. If they miss, the other team scores. There are no boundaries, so once a point starts, players can move or hit the ball anywhere! You can check a video of it out here.
- Adventure Race
It’s like a triathlon, but with your best friend on your team and a canoe! Adventure Race is composed of 2-person teams that will canoe in a small lake, bike on trails and dirt roads, and then run to the finish line. May the odds be ever in your favor.
- Battleship H2O
Imagine sitting in a canoe with 2 other people at the pool in State Gym. Now, there are other canoes surrounding you in the same situation. The catch? You use a bucket to try and sink your opponents while simultaneously getting water out of your canoe. Watch how it’s done!
Yes, you could win an intramural t-shirt by winning a tournament of checkers! This is just regular old checkers that you played while you were young. So if you think you have the strategy to win the entire thing, try it out!
Other honorable mentions include curling, foosball, and bowling! To view an entire list of intramural sports and the deadlines for sign-up, visit the site HERE. If you want to try out an intramural but can’t find a team, make sure to check out the free agent list.
