Hey everyone!

Last week was a bit of a different week for me with me not even being at Iowa State. I was fortunate enough to be in Des Moines attending the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, or KCACTF, with ISU Theatre.

KCACTF is a week long festival that is attended by many different theatre programs from schools in our region. The week is full of different opportunities for students studying theatre. There are various plays performed every single day that you can attend, workshops and intensives for you to participate in, as well as different competitions and auditions.

This is always a really special week for everyone in our department. It’s a great chance for us all to spend a week together away from the stresses of school, and just really focus on improving as artists and learning more about theatre. We also get to spend a week in a hotel with our closest friends and what is more fun than that?

For me, last week was full of many things. I’ve attended almost every single play that is at the festival this year and also sat in on a few workshops about different topics in theatre.

Early in the week I also participated in professional auditions, and auditioned for different companies who are looking for actors for their summer seasons. I performed my initial audition, and then got called back to three different companies and went through each of their different callback processes. This involved singing and reading scenes from the shows that they are performing, interviewing with the directors of the companies and doing a dance audition. It was, to say the least, exhausting. And fun.

KCACTF is a great example of all of the amazing opportunities that are available at Iowa State. By getting involved in your major and taking advantage of everything that you can, you can really make the most of your time at Iowa State. While taking a week off from school isn’t the easiest thing to do, it’s worth all of the amazing memories and networking that the week is full of.
