Important Events Coming Up After Break!
Hey everyone! As many of you all know Iowa State University has tons of clubs and organizations. Each organization contributes to the development of community and the student experience. After break, a couple of these student organizations are hosting important and impactful events.
Latinx Student Initiatives will be hosting a 5K for DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival) on Saturday, March 24 beginning at 8 a.m.. DACA has been a topic of discussion for a while now and impacts our community and many people in our society. This will be a great opportunity to support and show solidarity with our peers.
On Saturday, March 24 beginning at 1:00 p.m., Out of the Darkness Walk will be happening on our campus. This is a walk for suicide prevention and to raise money to fight suicide in our community. ISU Out of the Darkness Walk states that suicide is the 1oth leading cause of death in America.
Reggie’s Sleepout in Ames is happening Saturday, March 24 at 3:00 p.m. and ending March 25th at 7:00 a.m. This event focuses on addressing youth homelessness in our community. There are three organizations that provide resources that support and focus on youth homelessness, such as YSS, Assault Care Center Extending Shelter and Support (ACCESS), and Emergency Residence Project (ERP).
There is an annual event that departments at Iowa State University host every year called the Social Justice Summit. It will begin Friday, March 23 and end Saturday, March 24. The event is organized and led by staff of the Student Activities Center, Margaret Sloss Women’s Center, the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, and Department of Residence. It is an overnight summit that will provide you to discuss a variety of issues and identify strategies to create social change.
