Time is Valuable – Learn to Manage it as a Full-Time Student

If you are anything like me, you might start and end your days wondering where all the time went. The day has come and gone and you are now looking at today’s unchecked off to-do list. If only there were more hours in a day…

Now let’s be real, there is always going to be something more to do. But knowing how to manage your time as a full-time student might make life a little easier…Here are some helpful tips!

Priorities!

There will always be another task and another deadline. Some tasks can wait and some are weighted heavier than others. So, make a prioritized list, scheduling the highest priority tasks first!

Know Yourself

Every successful student knows when and where they do their best work. What time of day do you work best? Where are you most productive? Designating a time and place with minimum distractions is essential for getting things done. Whether you are an early riser or a night owl – know yourself!

Sleep

Along with simply staying healthy, lack of sleep will also reduce performance and productivity. Don’t become a stereotypical sleep deprived and overworked college student – Get your sleep!

1..2..3..1..2..3.

Sometimes the length of our to-do lists become daunting. Try not to stress yourself out. Instead, try tackling just three tasks at a time. And when you are done with those, move on to the next three! Before you know it, you will have everything done before the day ends!

Deep breath…

Taking a break is proven to improve efficiency! That right, a coffee break is okay! Give yourself 15 minutes or so to completely remove yourself from your current task and revisit it with a clear mind!

Little accomplishments add up!

Don’t wait for big chunks of time to start on the next task. A lot can be accomplished in between your daily commitments! Consider reading a few pages in an assigned reading, studying for your next test, or clearing out your inbox – small things can amount to big accomplishments! Slow and steady wins the race!

Celebrate the milestones!

Like I said, there will always be more to do. But thankfully, with each thing you get done, you are one step closer to getting your degree!.. and knowing when to celebrate your accomplishments is a healthy habit to get into. You have the right to be proud of yourself, celebrate a little!

Earning a college degree doesn’t happen over night. And while we may not be able add hours to the day, learning healthy time management skills will make the process a heck of a lot easier!
