Summer in Ames
Happy July! How has your summer been going? I’ve been spending this summer in Ames working as a full-time intern. After work and on the weekends, I enjoy going out or relaxing at home. Here are some of my favorite ways to spend my free time here in Ames!
Go on a walk or run. One of my favorite places in Ames is Ada Hayden Heritage Park because it’s so peaceful and relaxing. I personally don’t workout much, but I try to get a certain amount of steps in everyday.
Drive down to Des Moines, the biggest city in Iowa. I can’t even begin to list all the things to do there. There’s the Jordan Creek mall, the capitol building (with the gold top!), and plenty of places to eat. I personally like hanging out downtown because they tend to have random events going on during the summer. For now check out the Des Moines Register for local events.
Hang out in downtown Ames. There’s a lot of cool little places like tea stores, local restaurants, cool coffee shops, the public library, and more! There’s plenty of cute little places to meet up with your friends. I recommend getting pasta at Bar La Tosca or coffee at Café Diem.
Go to the gym. Iowa State’s Lied Recreation Athletic Center and State Gym are open in the summer. I personally don’t go to the gym (I know, I know…) but I have plenty of friends that do!
Ames in general tends to have plenty of local events, which you can find here.
Whether you’re also currently in Ames this summer of planning to stay in summers to come, I hope this helps you have an even better break!
