Ways to Spend Valentine’s Day

Ah, Valentine’s Day. While we usually see it as a day for couples to boast their undying love for each other, I like to see it as an opportunity to show everyone I love that I appreciate them. I also like to find some time to take care of myself. That’s why I’m going to talk about ways that you can celebrate Valentine’s Day, with or without a partner!

Plan a party or small get-together with your closest friends.

Who says only the people in relationships get to have a fun evening? Gather up your single best friends and enjoy the night together!

Things to do:

  • Cook a nice meal together
  • Put on your favorite movie
  • Have a self-care night
  • Host a book swap
  • Play a game together – board games, Just Dance, Mario Party, etc!

Go on a date with a friend.

Wanna go out and have a romantic evening? Go with a friend! You don’t have to miss out on any “traditional” Valentine’s Day activities just because you don’t have a romantic partner. Go and get dressed up, go out for dinner, watch a movie, go on a walk, buy each other flowers, eat some chocolate, whatever it is that you want to do. It’s also a way to strengthen the bond of your friendship.

Alternatively, you can do all of these things by yourself. Bring a music playlist or a good book, and enjoy it.

Do something to better yourself.

A great way to show yourself love is to actively work on improving yourself. Try creating a new workout routine, buy yourself a gift, create art, or write to yourself.

I’m a huge advocate of journaling, and I find it to be a great way to channel out your stress and emotions. If you feel particularly sad about being alone on Valentine’s Day, try writing out your feelings on paper. Tell yourself what your best traits are, what you want to improve, and things you want to achieve.

Have a self-care night indoors.

One of my favorite ways to spend my free nights is to have a lazy self-care day all to myself. I’ll heat up a warm beverage, turn on my favorite show or get out a book, put on a face mask, and just relax. I don’t think about any of my responsibilities for one night. If I’m feeling extra, I’ll prepare a fancy bath and light some candles. Of course, this is how I like to treat myself. Self-care looks different for everyone, so do whatever it is that makes you feel rested and re-energized!
