FREE Events in Ames this June
Are you in Ames this summer, or looking for ways to explore the city before you move here? Ames offers many free events for people to enjoy the city and get outside.
I’ve compiled a list of some cool events and recurring events for you to check out that are completely FREE and open to the public:
June 1, Saturday: Summerfest
Ames Campustown is hosting Summerfest from 3-9pm on Welch Ave. Family-friendly activities are from 3-7pm including a petting zoo, face painting, live music, balloons, a root beer garden, and more. There will also be a Cutest Dog Contest!
June 7, Friday: Downtown Ames Art Walk
Downtown Ames will be hosting their annual Art Walk from 5-8pm. This is your chance to discover over 60 new artists and their work
June 8, Saturday: Reiman Gardens Rose Fest
From 1-4pm, Reiman Gardens will host their annual Rose Fest featuring the best roses in the state. Admission is free for all ISU students!
June 29, Saturday: Iowa Regional Lily Show
Reiman Gardens will be hosting the Iowa Regional Lily Society’s annual Lily show. Take a look at hundreds of different lilies across North America. Admission is free for ISU students!
Saturdays, 8am-12:30pm: Ames Farmers Market
Held in downtown Ames on Main Street with free live music, local produce, original art, and more. Check out this blog post to see what it’s like!
Saturdays, 10-11am: Yoga in the Park
Are you trying to get fit this summer? Go to these FREE yoga classes at Durham Bandshell Park, 6th St and Duff Ave, Ames. (Be sure to bring your own mat).
Saturdays, 4-5:30pm: Conversations in French
If you’re trying to learn a new language this summer, the Ames Public Library hosts a weekly get-together for native and non-native speakers to practice speaking French. It’s free and open to the public! Location: The Studio room.
Tuesdays, 7-8:30pm: Conversations in Spanish
If French isn’t your language of choice, the Ames Public Library also hosts a get-together for people to have casual conversations in Spanish. Location: The Studio room.
