Registration time: Fun electives you might want to take next semester

As you know, it’s registration season! Some of you have probably already registered, but I have some fun electives for the rest of you to consider adding to your schedule! You need some fun classes to offset that 8 a.m. lecture or that 3 hour lab. So, here you go:

HRI 383- Introduction to Wine, Beer and Spirits

This is the first class everybody brings up when they talk about go-to elective courses. Essentially, the class is exactly what the title describes. You learn about wine, beer and other alcoholic beverages. Yes, there is taste testing and yes, you must be 21 to take the class.

Eng 335- Studies in Film

Another pretty self-explanatory title. You watch movies in class and then discuss what you thought about the films. There are a few short papers throughout the course, but they aren’t too bad. Plus, you’re getting credit for watching a movie!

Music 304- History of Rock n’ Roll

If you’re into rock music, this class is probably for you. You learn all about the history of rock n’ roll music! Plus, it is offered online which is convenient for scheduling purposes! It’s also a 300-level class. You will need a certain number of 300-level courses to graduate. There are some prerequisites however, so get those out of the way first!

Kin 129- Bowling

Of course I was going to throw in a sports class! I chose bowling as an example, but they have more offerings, such as tennis, racquetball, soccer, volleyball, tae kwon doe, and so on. So, if you want to get class credit for playing a sport, here you go!

Theater 251- Acting 1

Come on. Deep down you know you have always wanted to be an actor or actress. Well for a lot of us, taking a theater class is as close as you can get! So unleash your inner Tom Cruise and be an actor for a semester.

JLMC 477- Ethnicity, Gender, Class and the Media

Shameless journalism plug, since I am a journalism major. This course is online and pretty interesting. We watch a lot of movie clips and documentaries about how the media portrays gender, class, and ethnicity. I think it’s a fairly interesting subject matter, but maybe that’s just because it’s my major. But, hey, it’s a 400-level course that isn’t too difficult, it’s completely online and meets the U.S. Diversity requirement.

Psych 460- Abnormal Psychology

I think this class would be interesting and plan on taking it once I knock out a few prerequisites. Maybe it’s just me, but I think abnormal psychology is a super interesting topic as far as electives go!

I could go on and on, because we have some pretty cool electives offered. My advice would be to take electives with a subject matter you are actually interested in. It’s better to take a stimulating elective that you will enjoy than a snooze fest you don’t have any interest in!

And before I wrap this up, I just wanted to say something in case somebody from the English department is reading this. We need a Harry Potter Literature class offered. Please? Okay.

That’s all! May the registering odds be ever in your favor.
