Things to Do at Iowa State This Winter
Iowa State always has a lot of cool events going on and that includes the winter season! I’ve compiled some of the cool upcoming events that Iowa State has to offer this winter in this blog post. Check them out!
Nov. 23-Jan. 4: RG Express Holiday Railroad Opening at Reiman Gardens – A custom-built garden-scale train is coming to Reiman Gardens – check it out for free with your ISU student card! If you’ve never been to Reiman Gardens, it is a beautiful public garden 17 acres long and a great place to visit, take photos or go on a date. Dec. 6: ISU Winterfest – Winterfest is an annual event held by Iowa State and hosted by the Student Activities Center to celebrate the winter season! The activities are FREE and include free beverage sampling, chair massages, photo snow globe making, carriage rides, ice skating, the tree lighting ceremony and more! Dec. 7: Holiday Open House at the Farm House Museum – From 12-4pm there will be Victorian-inspired crafts, Santa, free refreshments and more.
Dec. 14 & 15: The Nutcracker – An annual Iowa State production at the Stephens Auditorium Center. Click here for dates, times and tickets.
Dec. 21: Butterfly Blizzard at Reiman Gardens – Release a butterfly of your own (just-emerged from chrysalis) and watch its first flight in the Butterfly Wing from 8-9:30am. (Free hot cocoa included).
Paint Your Own Pottery – Every Thursday from 4-8pm in the Memorial Union Workspace are the walk-in hours to paint your own pottery and get it fired within a week. Fridays 4-8pm are themed nights, but you have to sign up ahead of time. Studio fees are only $4 for ISU students! Click here for more info.
Cyclone Cinema – Every weekend in Carver 101 (Thursday-Sunday), the Student Union Board at ISU showcases a film for free! Some upcoming movies include The Lion King, Good Boys and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Here is a link to the schedules.
